HEYCO-Advanced Mobility Systems – Engineered Sustainability

New forms of mobility open up a wide range of applications for HEYCO’s innovative components. HEYCO is a pioneer in the use of complex plastic assemblies for all alternative drive systems. The focus will be on electromobility, fuel cells and CNG (compressed natural gas) as well as hybrid technologies relating to the combustion engine and AdBlue® systems.

Electromobility

Electromobility is currently one of the four megatrends in the automotive world. Everyone is talking about reducing emissions such as CO2, NOx and particulate matter. Far-reaching changes in mobility behavior present vehicle manufacturers in particular, but also automotive suppliers such as HEYCO, with new challenges every day.

We at HEYCO were quick to adapt to this and are therefore working closely with our customers on the mobility concepts of the future. This involves both specific components that are used exclusively in electromobility, but of course also components that have been adopted from classic vehicle construction.

These can be components around the battery, the central and most expensive core component of electromobility, but also adjacent components that protect the relevant installation spaces from external influences. These multi-component covers usually integrate several functions and primarily serve to ensure the functional safety of the entire vehicle and to protect the battery units.

HEYCO plays to its strengths here:
Over 80 years of experience as a partner to the automotive industry and a motivated development team specializing in the development and production of complex and innovative components.

The result is always the same:
Satisfied customers who trust us to do more!

AdBlue®

Until the widespread use of alternative drive concepts, modern diesel engine technology is necessary in order to achieve the EU’s CO2 targets.
Equipping vehicles with SCR technology enables them to comply with the European environmental standard Euro 6. SCR stands for “Selective Catalytic Reduction” and refers to the treatment of exhaust gases. With the help of AdBlue®, a urea additive, nitrogen oxides (NOx) are converted into harmless water vapor and nitrogen.

As AdBlue® begins to freeze at temperatures below -11°Celsius and its function is therefore no longer guaranteed, the additive must be warmed up accordingly. HEYCO has developed a special fuel tank for this purpose, which is equipped with an integrated heater. This intelligent integration of functions takes place in the injection-molded part and not only eliminates the need for complex assembly of several components, but also reduces the overall weight.

HEYCO – sustainable engineering for state-of-the-art combustion engines.

Fuel cell

As an alternative to batteries, fuel cells can supply the electric motor in modern vehicles with energy. In fuel cells, oxygen from the ambient air reacts with hydrogen from a tank. On the one hand, electrical energy is generated, on the other hand, only water is produced in addition to waste heat. Both the short refueling time and the long range are comparable with traditional combustion engines.

HEYCO has developed a special 2-chamber expansion tank for operation in fuel cell vehicles. Two separate cooling circuits are integrated into a complex assembly, which differ both in terms of cooling temperature and operating pressure.

CNG (Compressed Natural Gas)

Low emissions and low consumption

Natural gas is considered a low-emission fuel with a high energy content and clean combustion. Compared to gasoline combustion engines, natural gas produces up to 25 % less carbon dioxide. In addition, no particulate matter and hardly any nitrogen oxides are produced. Natural gas is significantly cheaper than gasoline or diesel fuel.

HEYCO offers special underbody components in multi-component injection molding that meet the requirements of natural gas-powered vehicles. The intelligent design not only seals the installation space of the gas tank against external environmental influences, but also allows it to be removed quickly for servicing.
